Froch-out?

So Saturdays football has gone off without much incident, in fact it seems like it will be a pretty morose episode of MOTD this evening and I don’t feel too bad about giving it the Sky+ treatment as I head off for my work Christmas shindig. However having to Sky+ the Froch v Ward bout is a slightly more stinging prospect. I may catch some of it after getting in but will be far to intoxicated to fully appreciate it.

This is the finale of the much debated Super 6 competition. Some people don’t seem to think it has been a success but there is no doubt it has raised the profile of Froch, especially abroad. Defeat to the classy Mikkel Kessler is nothing to be ashamed of but tonight’s opposition is a much tougher proposition in the shape of Andre Ward. The undefeated Ward goes in as the favourite for tonight’s bout but there is definitely the chance of an upset tonight. Froch says he wants to restore British pride and now would be a very good time to do so. After the flame of David Haye and Amir Khan’s candles seem to of been not only blown out but doused with water. There have also been 9 world title defeats for British boxers this year. Not a proud record at all, and Derek Chisora will make it one more after he is resoundly beaten by Vitali Klitshcko early next year in one of the most ridiculous fights ever scheduled.  I have seen a lot of Froch growing up, a regular on programmes like Soccer AM and not afraid to talk to the media he is, in my opinion a likeable character and the Nottingham boy would be perfect for restoring some UK pride with a win in New Jersey tonight. I am firmly staying on the fence here by the way. Mainly because I can’t bring myself to say I think Andre Ward will win. It should be a wonderful fight though, the fighting styles of both men allows for an exciting fight and if it goes the distance I can see plenty of toe to toe slogging as the natural aggression of both men breaks through the imaginable tension and controlled, composed boxing we are bound to see. Mainly I look forward to getting in tonight, cracking a beer, sitting down and checking out a British boxer in a world class unification fight. Is there anything else a red blooded British boy should desire? Let’s get ready to rumble is what I say.
