Introduction

Firstly who am I and what gives me the right to rant and ramble about this most popular hobby on the world wide internet machine. Well on the latter subject, not much really, other then the freedom of this world we live in and this mindboggling technology I know so little about.

I am 22 years old, opinionated, annoying, delusional and just a little off. I have played and watched sport all my life. A passion deep within me at an early age for the 'national game', football developed through my childhood. An obsession with NHL, NFL and NBA soon followed thanks to an addiction to games consoles (thanks alot EA Sports) although that has now dissipated. As a pre-pubescent I was quite a short, chubby and redfaced boy and as much as I liked to watch sport, my physicality, personality and social interaction barriers severely limited my sporting passion. This impotence stopped when something magical happened. I grew. I could play sport now and from there it all started. Now I love most, if not all sport. Racquet sports, cricket, motorsport, boxing and rugby are my main passions but I also like to keep up to date with golf, cycling, athletics etc.

I then went on to study Sport at University under the guidance of some really great minds who know all about everything about nothing I have ever heard of. If that made no sense then it should have because I know exactly what it means. It opened my eyes a little bit. There is so much more to sport then what happens in 90 minutes, at the oche, in the outfield or on the home straight. Behind the scenes contradicting forces push and pull in various social, political, economical directions. This is where I became interested. The history. The sociology. The politics of sport. Why do Israel participate in European sport, why do countries boycott sporting competitions, how political can sport be, FIFA???

So, over the next few weeks I will just post my thoughts, my rambles on this thing they call a blog and hopefully with a little help from my friends people might just take a vested interest in what I am doing here. England have just beaten Spain at Wembley 1-0 and I am going to take that as a good omen.

Thanks for reading

  1. My favourite part of your blog is this bit "I love most, if not all sport. Racquet sports, cricket, motorsport, boxing and rugby are my main passions but I also like to keep up to date with golf, cycling, athletics etc.". I like it mainly because you seem to forget you like football.

However as you know I appreciate your sporting knowledge alot, probably more than any other. So I am looking forward to reading more than an introduction.

P.S. Sadly I have thrown many a WSM and FourFourTwo magazine out since we have University.

  2. Well I am thinking of creating RambleOnFootball as it holds such an importance in my life! Thanks for pointing that out, I plan on just doing a little blog every day for the rest of my life. See where that gets me. Probably need a few more friends then just you however, no offence.
